No accounts. No analytics. No ads. Niyam is designed so your data never needs to leave your device.

What Niyam does not do
No account
There is nothing to sign up for. Your choices live only in the app on your phone.
No tracking or analytics
Niyam contains no analytics SDKs, advertising frameworks or tracking services of any kind.
No ads
There are no advertisements and no ad-related data collection.
What stays on the device
All astronomical calculations — sunrise, sunset, moonrise and tithi times — are performed locally on your device. Your chosen vrats, fasting log, vow progress, people and places, reminder preferences and theme settings are stored in the app's own storage on the phone. None of this data is transmitted to any server.
Location
When you tap "Use my location," the phone's GPS determines your city once. The coordinates are used on the device to calculate sunrise, moonrise and vrat timings. Your position is never sent to any server.
Place search
When you search for a city by name, Niyam uses the platform's built-in map search:
- On iPhone: the typed words are sent to Apple's MapKit search service (Apple Maps).
- On Android: the typed words are sent to Google's Places API.
Only the search text is sent; no other personal data accompanies the request. Niyam has no control over how Apple or Google handle these queries. Outside of place search, the app works fully offline.
Notifications
Reminders (evening preparation, sunrise, moonrise, parana window) are scheduled locally by the phone's operating system. No server sends push notifications. Notification content is generated on the device.
Sharing
When you share an observance card, the image is built on the phone using the app's own renderer. It is handed to the system share sheet, and Niyam does not transmit it to any server.
Data export and deletion
You can export all your data as a JSON file from the "Privacy and data" screen in the app. You can also delete everything from the same screen — this removes all vrats, logs, vows, people and places from the device. Theme and language preferences are kept.
Children
Niyam does not knowingly collect any data from children. Since the app collects no data from anyone, there is nothing to distinguish.
Changes
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted here with a new effective date.
